LFCT Barefoot for A Day logoIt is once again that time of the year when we ask you to go barefoot for a day so that our Children with Cancer do not have to!
Barefoot for a Day is an Annual Project that LFCT started in 2013, and every year we ask you to join us in collecting/donating shoes for our Little Fighters in hospital, at home and in Places of Safety.
This year we are combining our Barefoot for a Day  project with our Snug as a Bug Project into one big project this year. That way we can make our deliveries to the hospital wards, day clinics and to our Little Fighters and their siblings at home before the chill of winter sets in, thereby avoiding any between-season or change-of-season sniffles, which are very dangerous for Children with Cancer with their impaired immune systems.

WE URGENTLY Need YOU To Donate/Collect NEW Shoes & NEW Warm Winter Clothing for our Little Fighters.

Get your Friends involved, get your Family involved, get your Work involved, get your School involved – just think how many people you know…. if only a few of them donate one item of clothing or one pair of shoes, or the financial equivalent, we will have MORE than enough for ALL our Little Fighters.

💞 SHARE THE LOVE 💞

Barefooters are encouraged to donate a NEW pair of children’s shoes to the Little Fighters Cancer Trust during the month of March. LFCT then sorts and distributes all donated shoes to Children with Cancer in Paediatric Oncology Wards, Places of Safety, and individual Childhood Cancer-affected Family Homes across South Africa.
Many of our Little Fighters families cannot afford to buy them new shoes as they outgrow the old ones and consequently many of the children either have no shoes to wear or are wearing shoes that are too small for them.
By going Barefoot for a Day it reminds us what it feels like to not have a pair of shoes to wear, how little stones can hurt, how cold our feet can get, and how people look at one askance. This is just some of what our Little Fighters have to contend with, on top of being in the fight of and for their lives. The discomfort of being barefoot acts as a constant reminder during the day of the discomfort that Children with Cancer and their Families endure on a daily basis.
Unfortunately we cannot gift our Little Fighters with second-hand goods due to their immune systems being severely compromised as a result of the harsh cancer treatments that they undergo. It is for this reason that we ask that you please donate a NEW pair of shoes.

Needs for this project include:

Barefoot for a Day ShoesDonations of new shoes for boys, girls and teenagers of both sexes
While donations of shoes are most welcome,  we also accept financial contributions because that way we can utilise our NPO and PBO status and, being able to buy in bulk with sufficient funds in hand, we can haggle with stores for discounts and better deals.
Financial donations also allow us to be sure that we are able to buy the right sizes and types of shoes that we need for our Little Fighters, thereby ensuring that each Little Fighter gets the exact shoe they need and which fits them perfectly.

Snug as a Bug

The LFCT Project came about as a result of increased requests to our organisation to provide Children with Cancer with clothing. Many of the families that are affected by Childhood Cancer are very poor and struggle on a daily basis, and this disease just puts an additional financial strain on them on top of all the stress of the cancer itself.
Many of these young children lay shivering in their hospital beds because their families cannot afford to buy them warm clothing, pajamas etc which are vital as they get very cold during treatment.

    Good day,
I have been supporting Little Fighters for some time now. It’s particularly important to me now, as my Mom passed away from Cancer in October this past year. I love children, I have two small boys of my own and am a teacher. Please can you let me know where I can donate clothes, shoes etc here in Gauteng.
